OK, I definitely did not win big while in Vegas in terms of a slot machine dumping out money in my lap (or printing the lovely paper ticket - don’t get me started on the lack of the clink-clink sound when casino goers do win).
However, I came out a big winner in terms of knowledge and new contacts following this year’s PubCon event.
The week started off with one of the better keynotes I’ve seen given by Guy Kawasaki.
Guy covered the 10 Steps to Innovation. I’ve pulled out the three below as they were particularly interesting and speak to how creativity can impact your business.
1. Make Meaning - Guy points out that you or your product/service has to mean something. His example was Nike. It’s not just rubber, leather and fabric it’s the ability to take on the world.
2. Jump to the next Curve - This is the idea that it’s not enough to invent a better version of something, but rather true innovation comes when you take the creative leap all the way to a new product.
3. Don’t Let the Bozos Get You Down - This was my particular favorite. Guy made the great point that people will always be around to knock down your ideas, dreams, inventions and you simply can’t let them. If you are creative, be creative and don’t let people stand in your way.
Guy is a managing director of Garage Technology Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm and a columnist for Forbes.com. Learn more about Guy.
The week went on to encompass fantastic sessions and networking events where I had the opportunity to meet some of the best and brightest in the SEO/M industry.
Panels discussed a variety of topics including Pay Per Click, Public Relations, Widgets, Site Reviews and Social Media.
Thanks to an incredibly kind boss and some nice people at Yahoo! Karen (my colleague) and I were invited to attend the YPN launch at the Palms. Great Networking and Great Fun!
I am very excited to have the opportunity to attend and learn more about SEO, Online Marketing, Blogs and how we as marketers can leverage them creatively for clients.
If you are interested as well, check back for updates and new information from the conference.
If you are attending, please feel free to stop and chat with me or my traveling partners Lee Odden and Karen Sams from TopRank Online Marketing.
Welcome to the blog that will be all about incorporating creative ideas into marketing, PR and SEO.
For awhile now, I’ve been absent in the blogging landscape as I just couldn’t decide what to focus on. So many choices: email marketing, media relations, pr…
Finally, with determination in one hand and some peer pressure in the other, I do believe creative marketing is for me.
The creative side of marketing campaigns is what I enjoy the most. On this blog, you will find in upcoming days and months my creative thoughts on marketing campaigns as well as industry advice and how-to information.
Today’s creative advice is learning where you are best able to think outside the box. Once you figure this out, creativity starts to become a natural part of your day instead of a forced brainstorm session.
For me it’s in the moments between sleeping and waking. The important thing to remember is to have a notebook ready so you can go back to sleep and create some more.
